Remote Podcast Interviews: A Reliable Recording Workflow

Remote Podcast Interviews: A Reliable Recording Workflow

Give guests a simple setup, record separate tracks and protect the conversation with a backup.

Prepare the guest

Send one short email with the recording link, timing, headphones request and a quiet-room checklist. Ask guests to close bandwidth-heavy apps and plug their laptop into power. Explain whether audio, video or both will be published and get their agreement before recording.

Capture locally when possible

Local recording tools can reduce the damage caused by unstable calls, but uploads still need to finish. Check the platform settings for separate tracks and recording quality. A phone voice memo can serve as a simple secondary backup if the guest agrees.

Keep the conversation natural

Start with a warm-up that is not part of the episode. Ask one question at a time and leave space after answers. Mark notable moments in your notes instead of interrupting the guest to announce a clip. Ask for concrete examples when answers become abstract.

Your next step

Run a five-minute test with a friend and intentionally disconnect once. Learn what your tool preserves and how to recover files. Do not end the session until required uploads are complete.
